Clexane 4000 IU/0.4ml Pre-Filled Syringe

Clexane is a medication containing Enoxaparin sodium at a concentration of 4000 IU/0.4ml, used to prevent and treat blood clots.

What Clexane is and what it is used for:

Enoxaparin sodium is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) that works by preventing blood clots from forming and stopping existing clots from getting larger.

Therapeutic Indications of Enoxaparin:

• Treat blood clots in the blood.
• Prevent blood clots in the following situations:
  • Before and after surgery.
  • During periods of limited mobility due to acute illness.
  • In cases of unstable angina.
  • After a heart attack.
  • Prevent clots in dialysis machines.

Do not use Clexane if:

• You are allergic to enoxaparin sodium or any of its ingredients.
• You are allergic to heparin or other low molecular weight heparins.
• You have had a reaction to heparin causing a severe drop in platelets within the last 100 days.
• You are bleeding heavily or have a condition with a high risk of bleeding.
• You are scheduled for spinal or epidural anesthesia within 24 hours.

Warnings and precautions:

• If you have had a severe drop in platelets due to heparin.
• If you are scheduled for spinal or epidural anesthesia.
• If you have a heart valve fitted.
• If you have endocarditis.
• If you have a history of gastric ulcer.
• If you have had a recent stroke.
• If you have high blood pressure.
• If you have diabetes with eye complications.
• If you have had recent eye or brain surgery.
• If you are elderly, especially over 75 years old.
• If you have kidney or liver problems.
• If you are underweight or overweight.
• If you have high potassium levels.
• If you are taking medicines that affect bleeding.

How to use Clexane:

Always take your medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Enoxaparin is usually given by injection under the skin (subcutaneous) and can be given intravenously after certain heart attacks or operations.

Possible side effects:

Enoxaparin may cause bleeding, which can be life-threatening. If you experience any bleeding that does not stop or signs of excessive bleeding, consult your doctor immediately.

How to store Clexane:

• Store below 25°C. Do not freeze.
• Prefilled syringes are single-use; discard any unused product.
• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not use after the expiry date.
• Do not use if the syringe is damaged or the product is not clear.
• Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of unused medicines.
